Northern Power & Light is excited to announce the City of Glens Falls Community Hydro Project, a collaborative initiative between the City of Glens Falls, Boralex, and Northern Power & Light.

The project was announced Thursday at a press conference in front of City Hall, with local officials and NP&L Founders Emmett and Ethan Smith.

We were inspired by the enthusiasm on display at yesterday’s press event, where Glens Falls Mayor Bill Collins and other city officials announced their participation and encouraged residents to enroll.

“The City of Glens Falls is actively seeking ways to lower its carbon footprint, and has taken an important step by becoming the anchor customer for the Warrensburg hydro facility,” said Dr. Jeffrey Flagg, the Economic Director for the City of Glens Falls. “We are excited to partner with these local companies that focus on sustainability and community, two pillars that drive our City’s continued success.”

The new community hydro project is built around Boralex's Warrensburg Hydro facility, a 2.9MW run-of-river facility on the Schroon River.

The City of Glens Falls’ government will consume about 30 per cent of the project’s output to power City Hall, street lights, water treatment plant, and other municipal facilities. We are grateful for the support of Glen Falls officials on this project and their commitment to clean energy for their region.

Several local businesses have already enrolled as well, including the Charles R. Wood Theater, Queensbury Hotel, and Pure & Simple Foods, we're so happy to welcome these community cornerstone businesses as NP&L customers!

Northern Power & Light estimates we have electricity available for 300 more customers from the Warrensburg Hydro facility, bringing more opportunity to support renewable energy in your region. In partnership with the City of Glens Falls’ Community Development Program, low-income customers of the project can qualify for a 25 per cent discount.
